VIDEO: Success Stories From My Work With A Local Mental Health Center

There is a unique and wonderful program making waves across the country. It's called the InShape program. It allows mental health patients free (or cheap) access to a gym, personal trainer, and nutrition coaching. Most patients have very little income available and wouldn't otherwise be able to afford these amenities. Therefore, this program is a tremendous blessing for these folks.

Before the existence of the InShape program, mental health patients we're simply diagnosed and given pharmaceutical drugs to help with symptoms of illness and sent on their way. Unfortunately, this is a common practice in today's medical system as drugs do not cure or prevent illness or disease. They only disguise the symptoms. That's a story for another post! However, now that the InShape program is readily available, these patients are able to treat both physical health symptoms and mental health symptoms at the source using exercise and nutrition education with implementation.


Participants of the program typically receive a membership at a local fitness facility as well as weekly meetings with a health mentor (personal trainer). This is all free of charge for the participants. The program has been supported with grant funded research studies, donations, and through medicare/medicaid. 

The success of this program has been tremendous and has had a tremendous impact on the heath of the participants. Many have been able to decrease medications or stop taking them all together. Countless participants have lost weight ranging anywhere from 30 to over 100 pounds! One of my clients was able to lose 115 pounds in just over a year! He was able to follow his exercise and nutrition plan to a T each and every week. Consistency is what creates success. : )
